Access denied. Could not read the Windows Registry key "SOFTWARE\microsoft\shared"

Hi,

I have received the above error when trying to install ReturnOfSmartPartv1_3.
I am installing with Administrator Permissions on the front end MS Server 2003 Web Server running WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 with SP1.
The SQLServer 2005 server is running on a separate box.

Can someone please give me some guidance as to a possible resolution.

Thank You,
Gus

I had this problem as well.

In the end, I found that it was due to me running the setup.exe from a networked drive and not a local drive.

i.e. \\computer_name\c$\dir\setup.exe

When I copied the installation folder to the C Drive it worked.

And the error says "Access deined" instead of "Access denied", could we get the typo in the error message fixed? :-)

And the error message truncates the registry path, can we fix the error message to display the entire registry path? ;-)

I think I fixed the mispelling of "deined" in V1.2 which Lars should release shortly (I just pinged him again on this a few minutes ago).

I just added the truncated registry path issue to the Issue Tracker: http://www.codeplex.com/sharepointinstaller/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=10283.
